Volume 1, Number 1 (2022)

Dear Friends:

Today we are proud to announce that we are officially launching the Journal of Mexican Philosophy, a peer-reviewed journal dedicated to publishing advanced scholarship on Mexican philosophy. The first inaugural issue of JMxP features original essays by Amy Oliver, Guillermo Hurtado, and Manuel Vargas, as well as an original translation of a piece by José Vasconcelos (translated by Clinton Tolley). You can download the articles, as well as explore the site, at http://www.journalofmexicanphilosophy.com.

Our plan is to make the first two issues of JMxP “special inaugural issues”, and to invite contributors to share their latest research on Mexican philosophy. However, we will soon open up the journal for essay and translation submissions, which will undergo anonymous peer review. For now, Carlos and I will select which translations to include; however, we encourage you to recommend texts that you feel need to be translated and that can’t wait for the next anthology. Priority will be given to texts by women, indigenous and Afro-Caribbean philosophers, and political dissidents.

Stay tuned for information about how to submit in the near future.

For those of you who know us, you know that we’ve been talking about the possibility of JMxP for years. But it was more of an idea about what we thought the profession needed than a project we thought we could undertake ourselves. It just seemed too large a project; however, we started chipping away and somehow everything fell into place. We knew we would need a lot of support from friends and colleagues. Check. We knew we would need original articles of the highest quality and potential impact. Check. We knew we wanted the journal to be bilingual, include at least one article by a Mexican colleague, and one translation. Check. We knew we needed an all-start editorial board to get started. Check. We knew we wanted a website that we thought was beautiful and that visually reflected the mission of the journal. Check.

So, it is without further ado that we present to you the Journal of Mexican Philosophy (JMxP). Please spread the word. Encourage your friends, family, and small pets to contact us or make suggestions.
